SSA Darwin Day
From: Secular
Student Alliance Dear Secular Student Alliance Affiliate Students, As you know, ‘Darwin Day’ is right around the corner! On February 12th we celebrate Charles Darwin’s birthday and pay homage to his contribution to science. Because of Darwin’s work we have a better understanding of who we are, and of our connection to the natural world. Now is the time to start planning great Darwin Day events. There is a list of event ideas posted on the Secular Student Alliance website and here on our blog. Here’s one to get you started: * Hold a reading of 'The Origin of Species.' It's a dense text, so best to have a biology prof. help with this one-but light some candles, eat some B-day cup cakes and listen to excerpts from one of the most important books in history. The Secular Student Alliance works closely with darwinday.org (a non-profit dedicated to the celebration of Darwin Day around the world). If you would like us to have the Darwin Day folks send you materials to help with your event, simply send us an email with your mailing address and we’ll take care of the rest! Be sure to post your event on their site (this may get your group some press coverage!) Also, please send us your articles and/or pictures covering your groups celebration-we would love to publish these in our eNews, 'eMpirical'. Have fun celebrating!
